☑️Creating and connecting metamask
For the absolute beginner, we have a guide which outlines how to set up a Metamask wallet, the most widely used Web3 wallet for interacting with digital currencies at time of writing.
To give you a brief outline, think of Web3 wallets as digital wallets where you store “digital” tokens the same way you use a leather wallet to store dollar coins and bills for buying groceries. These tokens act like coins in the digital world and you need a place or digital wallet to hold them.
Metamask and Trustwallet are among the most popular digital wallets to store your tokens. They are software Applications (Apps) you can install for free on your Personal Computer (PC), laptop or mobile devices like your smartphone or tablet as long as these devices are connected to the internet. For the purposes of this guide, we will be focusing on Metamask on the iphone, but please note that you will have to go through the exact same steps whether it be on Android, PC or Mac.
Metamask Wallet set up:
In this step-by-step guide you will learn many things starting with “How to download and install the Metamask wallet on your iphone” so you can use digital tokens. Please follow the instructions below to get started on your Web3 adventure!
Click on the App Store(iphone/Mac) or Play Store(Android). For the purposes of this guide, we will be focusing on iPhone, but Android, Macs and PCs all involve the same steps.
First, type “Metamask” on the search option, click “get” to download Metamask and wait. It can take up to a few minutes depending on your internet speed.
Once the Metamask app is downloaded you should see its icon (orange fox face) at the bottom right of your iphone screen. After clicking on it you should see a message “Welcome to Metamask”, click on “get started” at the bottom.
Click “create a new wallet” on the wallet setup page and type in a strong password. Be aware that Metamask cannot recover this password, so please acknowledge that fact by ticking the box below before clicking on “create password”. Please store your password in a safe location and have access to multiple backups.
Once your password is successfully created you are directed to the “secure your wallet” page, click on “start” at the bottom to set up your seed phrase which is necessary if you get locked out of the App or get a new device. Click on “start” again. Do not share this seed phrase with anyone, and store in multiple OFFLINE locations.
In Web3 we use the axiom, “Not your keys, not your coins”. This describes the fact that without your seed phrase (keys) you have no access to your coins (assets). Web3 liberates us to a whole new world of financial possibilities, but great responsibility is required to govern this new-found freedom. Please take much care with the storage of your seed phrase.
Follow the instructions and write down your seed phrase in a couple of different OFFLINE safe places. Once you have done this, click on “continue” where you will be asked to confirm each word from your seed phrase, then click “complete backup”.
Click “done” and “I agree”. You have your wallet now installed! Feel free to click “take the tour”. Congratulations!
